Module 14: Value of Warm Ups
Calibrating the Machine
You wouldn't sprint 100 meters the second you wake up. You stretch first. The trumpet warm-up serves two purposes:
- Physical: Blood flow to the lips. Awakening the lungs.
- Mental: Focusing the mind. Finding the center of the pitch.

Phase 1: Flow Studies (Long Tones)
Play a Low C. Hold it for a full breath. Keep the volume strictly steady (no wavering). Imagine the air moving through the horn like a flowing river. Do this for C, B, Bb, A, Ab, G.

Phase 2: Flexibility (Lip Slurs)
Wake up your 'tongue elevator'. Slur between harmonics using the same fingering (C - G - C). Keep the air steady and just flick your tongue arch. Make it sound like a siren, not a staircase.

The 20-Minute Limit
Danger: Do not practice during your warm-up! A warm-up is gentle. If you tire yourself out now, you have nothing left for the gig. Conserve energy.
